Our Leather
What Sets It Apart
Chosen for its texture, resilience, and ability to age with you. It’s not uniform. It’s not overly processed. And that’s exactly the point.
Our leather is sourced directly from a tannery in Argentina, known for its premium, environmentally responsible processes.
Struck through
Our signature soft black leather is struck through, meaning the dye penetrates all the way through the hide. This means;
-
Scratches or wear don’t reveal a raw or pale underside (as they would with surface-dyed leather)
-
The colour holds deeper over time, giving your bag a rich, lived-in patina
-
It can be conditioned and repaired more effectively over time
Top Grain
We exclusively use top grain leather, the highest grade used in premium leather goods.
Top grain refers to the outermost layer of the hide, where the fibers are most dense and durable. It’s also where the natural markings live; the grain structure, pores, and unique textures that give each piece its own fingerprint.
Unlike full-grain leather (which is often too thick and rigid for bags), top grain leather is lightly buffed for workability while retaining its natural strength and beauty. We don’t apply synthetic embossing or coatings to “correct” the surface.
These subtle differences, from light pebbling to tonal shifts, are a mark of quality, not a flaw. If it looks too perfect, it probably isn’t real.
Vegetable Tanned, Not Plastic-Coated
Our leather is vegetable tanned, using plant-based tannins rather than harsh industrial chemicals like chromium. This results in:
-
A leather that ages gracefully, softening and darkening over time
-
A more natural hand-feel, free from plastic-like finishes
-
A lower environmental impact, both in production and at end-of-life
Why LWG Silver Certification Matters
We work exclusively with a tannery in Argentina that holds a Silver certification from the Leather Working Group (LWG) — the global standard for environmental responsibility in leather production.
Here’s what that means:
-
Rigorous auditing across water use, chemical management, emissions, energy consumption, and worker safety
-
A Silver rating reflects high standards across all categories (scoring 75–84%)
-
Certified tanneries are committed to continuous improvement and transparency
By choosing LWG-certified leather, you’re investing in both better practices and better quality. You’re supporting traceable supply chains and slowing down fashion in the best way possible.
Our leather is not perfect and we never wanted it to be. We want you to see the grain, feel the weight, and notice the small shifts that tell you it’s real.
